For second consecutive year, Sitges is the Catalan town with the most blue flags

Nine beaches in Sitges have again been awarded the renowned Blue Flag distinction, which internationally recognises their quality and services.

The iconic Blue Flag distinction is one of the world’s most recognised awards for beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained. It is awarded by the International Blue Flag Jury of the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), in collaboration with the Environmental and Consumer Education Association (ADEAC).

The beaches in Sitges that have won the award are Botigues, Garraf, Aiguadolç, Balmins, Sant Sebastià, La Ribera, l’Estanyol, la Barra and Terramar, for their sustainability, the quality of the water, safety, attention to people with functional diversity and the complementary or educational offers available.

For the second consecutive year, therefore, Sitges has become the Catalan municipality with the most blue flags. In addition to these nine beaches, Port Ginesta has also received this distinction. In total, 95 have been given in Catalonia.
